Google Analytics is an incredibly useful tool in helping you understand your website’s traffic and performance. From time to time, you’ll need to allow someone to see your analytics…but you might not want them to be able to change anything. That’s where read only (or guest) access comes in!
Giving someone read only permission to your Google Analytics
It’s fairly straightforward to give access. Just follow these simple steps and it should only take a couple of minutes.
Step #1 Log into your Google Analytics account
This should simply be the Google Account you use to access your Google Analytics.
If you’re one of our clients and don’t have a Google Analytics account, then come talk to us and we’ll sort it out for you!
Step #2 Click on the Admin cog (bottom left of your screen)
When you click on Admin, it’ll take you to the admin panel, where you can control all the areas of your account, including user access.
Step #3 Click on Account User Management
There are 3 columns for Account, Property and View.
Click on ‘Account User Management’ under the Account column, which will take you to the permissions page.
Step #4 Hit the ‘+’ button
Click on the + button at the top right of your screen. This opens up the option to ‘Add Users’. Now click ‘Add Users’
Step #6 Add User Details and Permission
Add the email of the user you want to give access to.
Note that this MUST be a Google email.
Under permissions, ensure that ONLY Read & Analyse is ticked.
Once you’re happy, click the blue ‘Add’ button at the top left of your screen.
Done!
That’s you. You should now be on the Account Permissions page, with your new user added.
The new user will get an email from the Google Analytics Team, saying:
“Hello,
We want to alert you that you have been granted the following access: Read
& Analyze
to the Google Analytics account “xxxxxxxxxxx (UA-12345678)” by
xxxxxxxxxxxxx@gmail.com.
Please log in to Analytics at http://analytics.google.com/analytics/web/ to
access this account.
Sincerely,
The Google Analytics Team”
IMPORTANT: You can edit and change permissions from this page. Also remember to remove the user when the activity is completed.
